The East Central 4‑H Region covers the Counties of Flagstaff, Paintearth, and Stettler, the Municipal Districts of Starland, and Provost, parts of Special Areas 2, 3, and 4, and the Drumheller area. It includes the District Councils of Coronation, Drumheller, Flagstaff, Hanna, Provost and Stettler. 


Regional programs include:


Multi Species Judging & Consumer Decision Making

Regional Multi Species Judging and Consumer Decision Making takes place in June. A regional council committee organizes and hosts this competition for all members to participate. Senior members will qualify to advance to the Provincial Judging Competition held annually in the summer.


Regional Public Speaking

Hosting for Regional Public Speaking rotates around the region. Each district sends their top two junior, top two intermediate and top two senior speakers to this competition. The date of the competition is set annually by Regional Council. Regional Public Speaking is usually held in mid to late March. The hosting rotation is as follows:

Regional Presentations

Hosting the Regional Presentations competition rotates around the region.  The top two Junior, Intermediate and Senior presentations will advance to the Regional Competition. The date for the competition is set annually by the Regional Council. Presentations are usually held in mid to late March.    The hosting rotation is as follows:

Junior Winter Camp

Junior Winter Camp is held in mid to late February at the Circle Square Ranch near Halkirk. The camp is open to 4-H members who are 9 to 11 years old. Senior members who are interested in helping at camp may apply to be a counselor and assist with planning.


Intermediate Winter Camp

This is a new program in 2019 for Intermediate members. Camp is held the third weekend of November at Circle Square Ranch, Halkirk. The weekend camp is for members 12 to 14 years old. Senior members who are interested in helping at camp may apply to be a counselor and assist with planning.


Regional Fun Day   

This program is held annually in Stettler, in January. The day includes a variety of select-a-sessions ranging in topics from first aid to tae kwon do, to line dancing, to crafts. The conclusion of the day is the Ice Cream Social. A time for swimming is included in the day. There is no charge to attend the event, thanks to sponsors who include agricultural societies in the region and businesses in the region.


Award of Distinction

Every other year, the East Central Region honours an individual or individuals who exemplify the 4-H spirit, dedication, commitment, and a true belief in the 4-H program. Nominations for this award can be made by any one in the region. The deadline for nominations is December 1st of each year in the 4-H office in Stettler. Nomination forms are sent out in the fall. The awards are presented at the Regional Leader Recognition Night.


Leader Recognition Night

This event is held every other year, hosted by a different district. During the evening, 4-H leaders with 3, 5, 10, 15, 20, 25 and 30 plus years of leadership are presented with pins and certificates. In addition, the recipients of the “Award of Distinction” are recognized. The rotation is:

Regional Horse Events

Each year the Regional Horse Committee meets in late November. Clubs are welcome to host a horse event that is open to all horse members in the region. Dates and locations are determined by the host club. Events may include rodeo, gymkhana or show classes. Members have the opportunity to meet members from across the region for friendly competition.
